Transportation officials announced more major closures this weekend for Interstate 94 and the Metro Transit light rail for ongoing maintenance. Don't get screwed on a nasty detour if you can avoid it ahead of time.
Check out the closure list below.
Last weekend, the westbound lanes of I-94 were closed, but this weekend expect closures on east I-94.
From 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, all eastbound lanes will be closed between I-694 and Hwy. 55 in Minneapolis. Overpasses along that route being repainted: Broadway Avenue, 26th Avenue, 41st Avenue, 42nd Avenue, and Soo Line Railroad.
Several ramps to east I-94 will also be closed: I-694 eastbound and westbound to I-94 eastbound; Shingle Creek Parkway to I-94 eastbound; Hwy. 252 southbound to I-94 eastbound; 51st Avenue to I-94 eastbound; Dowling Avenue to I-94 eastbound; Broadway Avenue to I-94 eastbound.
The scheduled detour will be Hwy. 169 south to I-394 east.
Some of the light rail service will be down this weekend for more construction and maintenance. The trains will not run between the Warehouse District/Hennepin Avenue station and the Fort Snelling station from 11 p.m. Friday till 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Buses will replace trains between those stations.
The Franklin Avenue and 46th Street stations will close earlier Friday morning. Starting at 9 a.m., trains will not stop at those stations and riders will have to go to the nearest stop and take one of the Route 55 buses.
