MN secession petition: Glenn Beck to be first president of 'Dumbf*ckistan,' Faux Nooz reports
In the wake of President Obama's reelection, more than 500,000 people have signed official petitions filed with the White House asking for various states to be allowed to withdraw from the United States.
Unsurprisingly, the state with the strongest secession movement is Texas -- more than 78,000 have signed a petition asking for the Lone Star State to be allowed to withdraw from the Union. In addition to Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina all have secession petitions with more than 20,000 signatures.
But the movement isn't limited to the south. Minnesota and Wisconsin each have official withdrawal petitions signed by thousands of people. Another petition asks the Obama administration to "peacefully allow the states that have asked to secede to do so and form their own NEW nation together." And as you can see above, Faux Nooz reports that Glenn Beck has somehow already been elected the new nation's first president.
But seriously, the Huffington Post reports that the large number of signatures some of the petitions have received (especially in the south) will trigger an official Obama administration review of their demands:
A threshold of 25,000 signatures must be met within 30 days for petitions to be reviewed. The Obama administration explains, "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."
While in theory it might not be the worst thing ever to let the secessionists break away and get them out of our hair, we have a feeling the Administration will kindly ask them to stick with the United States for at least a little while longer. After all, the next presidential election is less than four years away!
