Minnesota Daily is the best U.S. college newspaper
Congratulations to the staff at the University of Minnesota's campus newspaper, The Minnesota Daily, for taking home this year's Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Daily staffers also took home two individual awards. Jules Ameel won first place in the Feature Photography category for his work on autism, and Matthew Mead won in the General News Photography category for coverage of the Minnesota National Guard's 34th Infantry Division "Red Bulls" departure for Iraq.
Robert Downs, currently a web intern with City Pages, was a national finalist in the Feature Writing category for his story, "A day in transit."
Next stop for the award-winning student journalists: Las Vegas in October, for a special awards banquet during the 2010 SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference at The Planet Hollywood Hotel.
