Minneapolis one of the best cities for singles, study says
Gives "spooning" a whole different meaning, doesn't it?
As a guy who has been around the dating block a couple-thirteen-fourteen times, let me tell you -- Minneapolis is a pretty good place to be single, at least until you've gone on dates with half of Uptown and have to keep your head on a swivel while out in public as a result.
But don't take my word for it. Listen to the folks at Rent.com, who rank Minneapolis as the seventh best city in the whole country for folks who are single and wanting to mingle.
Of course, some would argue online dating services like Tinder and OKCupid make it easy to meet potential mates/hookups/heartbreakers pretty much wherever you are, but the Rent.com "study" is concerned with meeting people the old-fashioned way -- out and about.
The study also concerns itself with the cost of one-bedroom apartments, because after all, if you don't live by yourself, it can be difficult to avoid subjecting your roommate to an uncomfortable late-night soundtrack if things go really well.
"Relatively inexpensive cost of living and great rental rates make Minneapolis an incredibly affordable [city] for singles!" the study says. "Pop out your headphones and enjoy music with your single friends at Minneapolis Music in the Parks. Scope out a potential mate through a stroll in the Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center or showcase your intellect with friends at trivia night at a local pub."
One thing keeping Minneapolis toward the bottom of the top 10 list is that the percentage of single adults here is relatively low, at least as long as we're not comparing ourselves to Des Moines. Here's the full list, with the percentage of singles in parentheses:
10. Chicago (23)
9. Jersey City (23)
8. Portland (24)
7. Mpls (25)
6. Philadelphia (26)
5. Seattle (30)
4. Boston (33)
3. Washington, D.C. (38)
2. NYC (38)
1. San Francisco (39)
Between Minneapolis being a great city for singles and St. Paul somehow ranking as the most romantic city in all of North America, the only thing not to like about dating in the Twin Cities is that Minneapolis women are apparently some of the pickiest in the country. No wonder I'm still single...
