Michele Bachmann rakes in $3.4 million

Michele Bachmann's reelection race is hoovering up campaign donations like some rapacious, omnivorous beast. The congresswoman's campaign announced yesterday that she raised $3.4 million in the last quarter, doubling what she pulled in the previous quarter.

The 6th-district contest was already the most expensive congressional race in the country, in a year set to break all congressional fund-raising records.

The announcement is just the latest in a string of good news for Bachmann. After predictions that her anti-census frothing might actually help lead to the elimination of her own congressional district, it now looks like that isn't going to happen.

And perhaps most importantly, the latest poll shows her trouncing her DFL challenger, Tarryl Clark, by nine points.

Bachmann's huge third-quarter haul leaves her sitting pretty. She's got $3.4 million cash on hand going into the home-stretch. With that kind of money, Bachmann is in a position to rain incendiary campaign literature and grandstanding campaign ads on Minnesotans clear through to Nov. 2.
