Michele Bachmann must be hypnotized [VIDEO]
How's that tingle, Mr. Matthews?
A little more than two years ago, Michele Bachmann blurted out to MSNBC's Chris Matthews that various congressional Democrats held anti-American views and ought to be investigated.
Her Joe McCarthy moment almost cost her her re-election.
Well, the Hardball host asked her last night, now that you and your party control Congress, who's first up?
"Will you use subpoena powers to do what you said on my show you'd do: Investigate the Democratic members of Congress for un-American activities?" Matthews asked.
Bachmann was ready for it, and didn't take the bait.
"I think the first thing we're going to do is try to set the economy in order, because jobs is the big issue," she said via satellite hook up. "What people want to make sure is that no one's taxes are going up. So I'm calling on Speaker Pelosi during the lame duck session to listen to the American people. They're speaking overwhelmingly tonight: 'Don't raise our taxes. Stop the out-of-control spending.' That's how we're going to get jobs back."
Matthews tried asking the same question again. But Bachmann stuck to her script. So Matthews got irritated.
"Congresswoman Bachmann, are you hypnotized tonight?" he asked. "Has someone hypnotized you? Because no matter what I ask you, you give the same answer. Are you hypnotized, has someone put you under a trance tonight?"
Bachmann smiled and zinged right back with a reference to Matthews' special feelings for Barack Obama.
"I think the American people are the ones that finally are speaking tonight," she said. "We're coming out of our trance, really we're coming out of our nightmare. I think that people are thrilled tonight. I imagine that thrill is probably not quite so tingly on your leg anymore."
It was a great setup. Watch the video, and you can see a Bachmann supporter holding a "how's the tingle?" sign right behind her. The woman is nothing if not media savvy.
