Michele Bachmann goes overboard for Glenn Beck
Michele Bachmann insists there were a million people on hand for Glenn Beck's Restoring America rally in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. But that's a fraction of reality, according to AirPhotosLive.com.
The company was hired by CBS to provide an independent estimate the crowd size. And it says the numbers didn't break 100,000.
The National Park Service used to do this kind of thing. But it backed off after politicians and activists of all stripes kept complaining about size estimates that didn't match overblown rhetoric and propaganda.
Which brings us back to Bachmann, who attended the Beck rally.
"We're not going to let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today," she hollered later at her own gathering near the Washington Monument. "We were witnesses."
This is what's called being too close to your subject matter. Even Beck himself, a man with an arguable grip on reality, wouldn't venture near the million mark.
"It's in the hundreds of thousands," he said later. "Let's be on the low end -- 300,000 --- and it may be as high as 650,000."
As for Bachmann's own rally, it sounds like maybe 1,000 people showed up.
