Michele Bachmann forms presidential exploratory committee
It's official: Michele Bachmann is running for president. God help us all.
Just because you see the train coming doesn't diminish the impact when it finally slams into you: Michele Bachmann is running for President of the United States of America.
Bachmann has been flirting with a presidential run for months, egged on by her fans and online cheerleaders.
Today brought the news that she's forming an exploratory committee, the first step in an official presidential run. She is likely to announce her intentions no later than early June.
CNN reports today that a "source close to the congresswoman" confirmed her plans to form a committee, and adds that Bachmann is assembling teams in early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
Bachmann's rapidly solidifying presidential ambitions put her on a collision course with that other great charismatically misinformed conservative woman, the Mama Grizzly herself, Sarah Palin.
It also puts her at odds with fellow Minnesotan Tim Pawlenty, who has spent the past month releasing action movie trailers in a vain attempt to persuade Americans he's more exciting than a wet napkin.
A Bachmann campaign could be just the thing this country needs to inject a little excitement into the 2012 race. Rest assured we will keep you updated.
