Michele Bachmann calls Barack Obama the "first post-American president"
Passing the health care bill and moving it to the president's desk in the same manner used by the last administration to pass tax breaks "sounds more like a Chavez tactic in Venezuela," Michele Bachmann told her follower's at a "Kill the bill" rally in St. Paul on Saturday.
She also accused Obama of tyranny and declared that, "The government is working against us."
"Some have called President Obama the first post American president," she said. "Certainly this health care bill would be our first post Modern legislation where words mean absolutely nothing."
Post American president?
She could have been referencing Newsweek International editor Fareed Zakaria's book, "The Post American World," described as "A book not about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else."
But Zakaria's more wonk than ideological attack dog. Given that she thinks Obama's a tyrant, perhaps she's following a line of attack being used most frequently by John Bolton, former President George W. Bush's U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, that's clearly intended to question Obama's patriotism. He told Fox News last September, after Obama's speech to the United Nations, that Obama was "a Post-American president who is above all that patriotism stuff."
And he told National Review Online National Review that Obama gave "a post-American speech by our first post-American president. It was a speech high on the personality of Barack Obama and high on multilateralism, but very short in advocating American interests."
Bachmann, of course, once famously told MSNBC's Chris Mathews that Obama and his wife held "anti-American views."
Here's the Bolton clip.
