Michael Philbin body found: Packers offensive coordinator's son dead days before playoff
Yesterday, Michael T. Philbin, son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, was reported missing after last being heard from about 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Minutes ago, the worst-case scenario was confirmed -- Philbin died, presumably when he fell into the icy waters of the Fox River in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
According to ESPNWisconsin's Jason Wilde, players were given official confirmation of Philbin's death shortly after 4 p.m. today, hours after The Oshkosh Northwestern reported that a rescue team recovered "the body of a man who fell through the ice Sunday morning behind Axletech in Oshkosh."
According to the Northwestern, divers began the search Sunday after an employee at Axletech called authorities around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to report that he thought he heard someone fall in the ice and call for help.
Deadspin reported that Philbin, 21, had come to visit friends in the vicinity of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.
Understandably, there is no word yet as to whether Joe Philbin will coach this Sunday when the New York Giants come to Green Bay for an NFC Divisional Round Playoff matchup.
