Metrodome expected to have a roof again by late July [PHOTOS]

The Metrodome will soon be whole again.

If all goes as planned, the new roof will be up by the last week of July, says Bill Lester, executive director of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission. After that, they'll need to recondition the turf, and a signature from a city inspector. The Dome should be ready for play August 12.

Now, if they could just find a team that actually wants to play inside it, they'd be set.

It's been a long and expensive few months for the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission since the Dome's roof succumbed to one of the biggest snowstorms in recent memory.

Earlier this year, they hired a firm from Texas to assess the extensive damage. The new roof, which is being installed now, came with an $18 million price tag, plus the cost labor.

Here's what it looks like, via the MSFC website:

One thing that could slow the construction down is weather. Lester says rain, high winds, and extreme cold make for dangerous conditions unsuitable for the construction.

We've certainly had plenty of that.

"We had a couple days we had to call the work crew off because of safety measures," says Lester.

Lester says he's not they'll do to celebrate once the roof is up, but there will be some event before the Vikings first home game in late August.

"We're brainstorming some ideas," he says. "We'll have some kind of an open house."
