McMahon's Pub fire kills 3 adults, 3 children (UPDATED)
An early morning fire that destroyed McMahon's Pub and the apartments above it on Lake Street has claimed the lives of six people, three of them children.
The names of the dead have not officially been made public yet.
Fire chief Alex Jackson told reporters at a press conference that he didn't know how the fire started.
"We've had a terrible loss here, and our deep concern is that it could be worse," Mayor R.T. Rybak told WCCO. "So right now, we need help from everybody in the public to bring forth any information they have about who could have been in that building."
The Star Tribune reported that, even though most of the fire seemed to be out by about noon, investigators with specially trained dogs searching for bodies were not able to the enter the structure until late in the day.
About 45 firefighters tackled the blaze, and Lake Street was shut down at 28th Street and a few blocks east to give them room to work.
