In that spirit, take a look at the photo above, taken in 1959. It shows the slain civil rights leader with Roy Wilkins and future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.
Wilkins, who rose to prominence as a leader of the NAACP in the 1960s, graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1923 with a degree in sociology. He was a reporter for the student newspaper, the Minnesota Daily, and once edited the St. Paul Appeal.
