When police were asked to conduct a welfare check at a St. Anthony home last week, they got a lot more than they bargained for. A 61-year-old man was alive and well in the home, but had been living there for up to two weeks with the decomposing body of a 58-year-old female resident.
Police arrested John Knutson, 61, Friday on suspicion of homicide, but he was released Monday without being charged. Authorities say they are waiting for toxicology and blood tests.
More from the Pioneer Press:
The woman's body had been "decomposing for quite a while, two-plus weeks," said Lt. Jess Scholl of the St. Anthony police.
The body was found in a common area of the home, Scholl said, and it appeared Knutson had been living with the body.
"It was extremely filthy," Scholl said. "There was garbage in every room."
