Man kills himself in downtown Minneapolis's LaSalle Plaza
A man killed himself in downtown Minneapolis's LaSalle Plaza around 10:55 a.m. today, Minneapolis police confirmed to City Pages.
"We know that one gentleman appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," MPD Public Information Officer John Elder told us early this afternoon, adding that police and the medical examiner were still on the scene.
Elder said the suicide happened near the YMCA in a "secluded area" on the second floor of the bustling skyway-connected business and shopping center.
"This wasn't a public display," Elder added.
The man's identity has yet to be released. Elder said police don't know anything at this point about where the man came from or why he decided to take his own life in the plaza.
