"It took some time before the (other) kids admitted that they were all on the wrong side of the fence."
That's what Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske told the Pioneer Press over the weekend after 6-year-old Kallie Palmer was struck and killed by an SUV in the southbound lane of I-35W at about 7 p.m. in Burnsville.
She'd been playing with friends in the yard of a house on McAndrews Road, which overlooked the interstate. From there, she got over the fence and down to to the road.
WCCO reported that she might have put herself in harms way after the kids dared each other to throw snowballs at passing cars.
Kallie's parents have asked for privacy after the tragedy. Her obituary, carried by the Star Tribune, read in part: "All children are angels Kallie, now you have your wings."
