With the Twins officially in the toilet, we've been itchy for catcher Joe Mauer to get back behind home plate after what seems like several centuries on the DL. And yesterday in Florida he finally strapped on his gear for three innings.
But don't look at him like he's a savior, he says. It's a long road back.[jump]
"I'm going to try and get back there and do what I can to help turn this around. But, you know, it's not just going to be me," he told 1500ESPN. And he's right. The team has a lot more problems than just Mauer's absence if they're going to amount to anything more than the '62 Mets.
But we'll take a any good news we can get, and Mauer offered some yesterday. "It was a good day today, getting the gear back on again," he said. "Obviously today was a big day."
