Jim Read, Uncle Rico look-alike Congress candidate, gets a makeover [PHOTO]

Jim Read doesn't look as much like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite as he used to.
The uncanny resemblance generated headlines for the 6th District DFL Congress candidate when he first announced his candidacy in October, but he recently decided to shave his mustache and go with a more original look.
"It turns out that Uncle Rico called me, and he lives in Minnesota's 6th District," Read told City Pages, tongue firmly planted in cheek. "He was worried that the two of us could get confused, and not wanting to lose the election by a single vote, and not wanting to alienate Uncle Rico's vote, I shaved off my mustache."
Whether he gets Uncle Rico's vote or not, Read faces a tough battle in trying to defeat leading Republican candidate Tom Emmer in the race to become Michele Bachmann's successor in the 6th. Emmer recently reported raising more than $200,000 during the last three months of 2013. That impressive haul builds on the $370,000 he raised during the first four months of his candidacy, a period of time during which he easily bested his Republican 6th District competitors in the fundraising department.
Of course, one year ago we thought the 2014 6th District race would feature a rematch of Bachmann and Jim Graves, so mustache or clean shaven, things can change quickly.
