Jerry Kill taking leave from coaching Gophers football
In a statement released this afternoon, University of Minnesota officials announced Jerry Kill will be taking a leave of absence from coaching the Gophers football team to focus on his epilepsy treatment.
As has happened when Kill has missed time on other occasions, defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys will serve as acting head coach.
Kill missed last week's game in Michigan after suffering a seizure, and he didn't coach the second half of the game last month against Western Illinois after suffering a seizure at halftime.
In the U of M statement, Kill is quoted as saying, "This was a difficult decision to make, but the right decision... I look forward to returning to the Minnesota sideline on a full-time basis soon."
Athletics director Norwood Teague echoed Kill's confidence, saying in the statement that administration's "support for Coach Kill is unwavering and we look forward to his return to full-time coaching duties."
