Inaugural Bike Valet

Authorities are encouraging folks to leave their cars in Alexandria, or wherever, for the inauguration. D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty was even on Larry King Live calling on folks to leave their cars at home, in between comparing himself to Obama and giving props to Orin Hatch. So what's a person to do if they want Mall access... ride a bike! While the crowds may be thick, they'll be places to park, even a free MPLS sponsored valet station.

The good people at Dero Bike are in D.C. and ready for some two-wheeled love. From their press-release:

In partnership with the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA) and America Bikes, Dero Bike Rack Company is proud to announce sponsorship of the Bike Valet for the Inauguration of the President in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.  Dero is providing bike parking for over 1000 bikes with its patented Event Racks. Traffic for the event will be challenging and the Metro will be crowded, so biking to this historic event will be fast, fun, and secure. WABA volunteers will be staffing the locations and handing out commemorative claim tickets.

Judging from the hundreds of thousands who lined up to get a Bono while watching Beyonce, U2 and Shakira (WTF?) perform on Sunday in front of the Lincoln Memorial, is more than 1000 slots for bike enough?

No matter. It's history. It's free. It has Minneapolis boys and girls showing their bicycle love to the land. And let's all hope (that's the buzz word, right?) Obama will include some funds for bicycling infrastructure in the stimulus plan. No better way to stave off dependence on foreign oil...
