The 11-month-old girl who fell nine stories from a St. Paul apartment building window has been identified as Ilhaan Hassan.
Hassan fell to her death last night as she and other children played next to a window in the Skyline Towers apartment complex. While other adults were in the apartment, but not nearby, Hassan went through a window screen and fell to the sidewalk below.
The apartment window had been inspected as recently as July 14, and the window screen was found to be "completely intact," a spokeswoman told the Star Tribune.
The spokeswoman, Deb Lande, also told the Star Tribune that everyone at Skyline Towers was taking the tragic fall to heart.
"Staff and residents are horribly shook up about this," Lande said.
Hassan was reportedly visiting the apartment with family at the time of the fall, though it is unclear if her parents live in Minneapolis.
Anthony Parker, a Skyline Towers resident who was outside at the time Hassan fell, told the Pioneer Press he heard children playing around, and leaning out of the window just before she fell.
Moments later, Parker heard the toddler land in the Skyline Towers playground. When he looked up to the apartment, he said he saw the same children screaming and crying, but didn't see any adults near the window.
