"If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the Bible" wasn't said by Bachmann

"If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the Bible" wasn't said by Bachmann

Did you hear the latest ridiculous Michele Bachmann quote about that multilingual Coke ad?

"If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the Bible, it should be good enough for Coke," Michele Bachmann is quoted as saying on Fox News in a viral image circulating Facebook.

Just one problem: She didn't say it, and a version of this fake quote has been circulating since 2011.

When the quote originally appeared on a spoof website back in 2011, it read, "If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for every child in America to speak."

When Coke premiered a commercial featuring "America the Beautiful" sung in different languages, some conservatives were predictably chafed. The 2011 meme was refashioned to reflect the stupidity of this sentiment and went viral anew.

Bachmann, it should be noted, has not expressed an opinion about the Coke spot.
