I-94 gasoline tanker crash kills driver, shuts down rush hour traffic
A gas tanker drove over a median on I-94 this morning, causing a fire that killed the driver and melted the asphalt in the westbound lanes.
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. just east of Hudson, Wisconsin, shutting down rush hour traffic in both directions, says Wisconsin State Patrol Lt. Jeff Lorentz. Eastbound traffic has since been reopened, but westbound is being detoured while crews repair the damaged road.
"It's going to be long term," says Lorentz of the repairs. "Hopefully we'll get it solved today yet."
Authorities still don't know what caused the driver to crash. "Not a clue," says Lorentz. "It could be anything."
