It's easy for us here in the Midwest to remember when The Onion was just a small publication making its mark out in Madison, Wis. Now the entire world reads it and it's never a bad thing to look back at the paper's hilarious personality and roots. Rex at Fimoculous dug into our archives and found a City Pages profile from 1997 about the budding spoof paper.
Rex says the profile has been the basis for many profiles since, including a hefty one in Washington Post magazine .
We don't want to spoil either of the pieces as they both need to be read in full. And now that The Onion has moved on to bigger and better in NYC, we can step back and remember that at least Wisconsin produced something awesome.
