This past weekend, however, was marked by a string of unusual violent crimes in south Minneapolis's Whittier neighborhood.
Scott Lipe charged with murder nearly six years after incident outside Mortimer's Bar
The first incident came just before bar close Friday morning, when 39-year-old Tarrince Winbush was the victim of a hit-and-run outside the Bulldog Uptown Bar on Lyndale.
"Investigation to this point shows that the suspect and victim got into an argument in the Bulldog," the Minneapolis Police Department says in a news release. "The argument continued out onto the street at which time the suspect got into a car and, with apparent intent, hit the victim with the car. The car then struck a scooter and another car parked at 26th [Street] and Lyndale Avenue South. Neither vehicle was occupied."
The driver, who was behind the wheel of a maroon four-door Town Car or Mercury Marquis-type vehicle, remains at large, MPD spokesman John Elder tells us.
Winbush, meanwhile, was left seriously injured.
Hit and run victims girlfriend says Tarrince Winbush suffered a broken neck and broken legs. He's in critical condition.
Once there, cops found 53-year-old Kenneth Madison with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.
Yesterday morning, 59-year-old Rico Howard was arrested in connection with Madison's murder. In a release, the MPD says Howard "was arrested while attempting to flee the state." More information will be revealed if and when charges are filed against him.
Here's Howard's mugshot:
The third incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday when officers were summoned to a report of an altercation with one person injured in the area of Franklin Avenue and Fourth Avenue South.
"Officers arrived and found an adult female with an apparent stab wound," the MPD says in a separate release. "She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died of her injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to officer's arrival."
The victim has since been identified as 46-year-old Nanette Marie Haghi, who suffered a fatal stab wound to her chest. The suspect remains at large as of this morning, the MPD tells us.
Despite the proximity of all three incidents, MPD spokesman Elder tells us investigators don't believe any of them are related.
