Hezekiah Hamilton arrested in connection with murder of Jody Patzner Jr.
Hezekiah Hamiliton was arrested about 7:30 last night in connection with the Monday night murder of Jody Patzner Jr. in north Minneapolis. He is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail.
Hamilton, 24, lives on the 3600 block of Fremont Avenue North, just one block away from where Patzner was gunned down during an attempted bike robbery. He was arrested at home.
Asked about the circumstances of the arrest, Sgt. Steve McCarty of the Minneapolis Police Department said it followed a couple of days of "good police work and surveillance." He said more details would be emerge in the criminal complaint, to be released later today or tomorrow.
Witnesses said that three youths were harassing Patzner as he tried to bike down Fremont Avenue moments before he was killed Monday night. McCarty said right now police "are just looking at the [probable cause] murder charges" against Hamilton, but added "we're constantly looking for more information... [charges] can always change."
A WCCO report quotes Patzner's farther, Jody Patzner Sr., as saying that while Hamliton lives just a block away from the home he shared with his son, he doesn't know him.
"I don't want to cry on camera... it's a sigh of relief," Patzner Sr. said. "I hope he gets what's coming to him. Justice will be served."
