Have you seen this escaped sex predator?
Minneapolis police and corrections officials are warning the public to keep an eye out for escaped sex predator Gregory Smith.
Smith, 59, cut off a GPS ankle bracelet on Tuesday, and is now at large. As a level 3 offender, Smith is classified among the most likely predators to reoffend.
Smith was released from Moose Lake state prison on May 18. Since then, he'd been on intensive supervised release, which meant he was free to move around, but was tracked at all times by the bracelet.
Smith, described as black, 5-foot-10 and 199 pounds, was last seen at the Hennepin County Government Center.
Corrections spokesman John Schadl didn't know how long Smith was off the bracelet before it was discovered, but said that normally the bracelets sound an alarm the moment they're tampered with.
Smith served time for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Minneapolis in 2003, and had been convicted of two sexual assaults in Illinois.
Police are asking that anyone who sees Smith not approach him, but call 911 immediately and report his location.
