Gail Elin Gagne will plead guilty to misdemeanor in sex with student
Gail Elin Gagne won't face felony charges after all for allegedly befriending and bedding a Credtin-Derham Hall student in 2009.
She's worked out a deal to plead guilty to misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct instead, and will go before a judge in March to find out her punishment.
According to complaint against her, Gagne had unlawful sex with the work-study student in the summer of 2008 at her Bloomington home, and at a hotel near the Mall of America.
At the time, she was 25 years old and working as the Cretin-Derham weight-room supervisor. The student was 16 years old. [Original criminal complaint here.]
A warrant was issued for Gagne's arrest in December 2009. She surrendered to authorities, and was arrested a little over a week later. She pleaded not guilty to the original charges.
Her case might have slipped by unnoticed in the press were it not for the fact that she's got local name recognition. Gail Gagne is the daughter of pro wrestler Greg Gagne, and the granddaughter of Verne Gagne, a pro wrestler now in the grips of Alzheimers Disease in the memory-loss unit of Friendship Village in Bloomington.
Gail Gagne's lawyer and the Hennepin County Attorney's office have worked out something called a trial "stipulation," the Pioneer Press reported. The arrangement means that both sides agree to a set of facts, submit them to a judge, and then the judge renders a verdict.
