Franken will ask Supreme Court for election certificate

Time for a little mix in the daily courtroom news. Al Franken's campaign will present their petition for an election certificate to the Minnesota Supreme Court today.

Franken currently leads Norm Coleman by 225 votes after the completion of the recount. Coleman is currently in court contesting that result. Franken hopes to be seated provisionally while the court battle continues.

More from KSTP:
Both the governor and the secretary of state must sign an election certificate to make it official. Governor Tim Pawlenty and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie have refused to do so until the lawsuit is resolved.
Franken's court petition aims to force the officials to act without waiting for Coleman's lawsuit to play out. His attorneys will argue that Franken should go to the Senate, at least on an interim basis, so the seat doesn't remain empty.
