English: The official language of Arcadia, Wisconsin?
The mayor of Arcadia has proposed making English the official language of the tiny western Wisconsin town. Mayor John Kimmel's proposal requires signs to be written in English only and that federal agents be alerted to complaints of undocumented workers. Employment at nearby dairies has attracted Mexican immigrants to the town of 2,400, and Kimmel claims their presence has caused a drain on government resources and an increase in crime. The Arcadia city council shelved the proposal, citing the need for more information.
