Becca Barnett of bringfido.com, a website highlighting the pet-friendly perks of living in America, likes to seek out the canine nuggets buried in the countryside where the big dogs --and dachshunds -- can return to their wolf roots and run untethered.
Making the website's Top 10 list of the country's best dog parks is none other than Elm Creek Reserve in Maple Grove.
The dog park inside the Elm Creek Park Reserve consists of a fenced in, off-leash area covering 29 acres, as well as miles of on-leash trails winding through greenery on 4,900 acres.
"There are a lot of places to go exploring off-leash. It seems like a completely different park, depending on the season," writes Barnett in her review.
Elm Creek Reserve is part of the Three Rivers Park District, which encompasses 27,000 acres of parkland and trails. Elm Creek is but one of the district's nine dog parks.
"We try to be responsive to the feedback of our park guests," says Three Rivers spokesman Tom Knisely. "And what they've told us is that they want places to go with their dogs."
