Drunken driver plows into minivan, killing fetus, injuring 8
Police say eight people were injured, and an unborn baby was killed Saturday night when Connie Stroud plowed her pickup truck into a family's minivan after driving the wrong way up a ramp onto Interstate 94 in Minneapolis. The accident happened at about 11:45 p.m. at the 49th Avenue ramp.
Tao Thao, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant and a passenger in the van, lost her baby and was listed in critical condition at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Her husband, Yia Vang, and their five children, ages 3 to 10 years old, were all injured in the crash.
Stroud is also listed in critical condition at North Memorial.
"We don't have the test results back, but I've been told she exhibited all the signs of an impaired driver," State Patrol spokesman Capt. Matt Langer told the Pioneer Press. "I feel comfortable saying she was intoxicated."
