David Kahn says Ricky Rubio will be a Timberwolf

Timberwolves President and GM David Kahn spoke with Henry Abbott from Truehoop on the phone on Monday. Here is what he said about Wolves' lottery pick Ricky Rubio:

Don't believe anything you read, or any kind of emotional outburst, or any kind of emoting of any sort that he will not play here. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm looking very forward to him starting his career here with the Minnesota Timberwolves in what I assume will be a year-and-a-half.

What's more, Kahn goes on, in his typically serene way, to express total confidence that, contrary to naysayers who would pick apart his current modest stats, Rubio "will prove to be a very special NBA player." So don't you worry about that.

Kahn's sanguine position accomplishes two things, I think. First, it sends other NBA teams the message that the Wolves are both patient and unworried about Rubio's status. Any team interested in trading for the ridiculously precocious and talented guard, therefore, must be prepared to pay dearly.

Second, it tells Wolves fans, players, and commentators that Ramon Sessions and Jonny Flynn are by no means the last word on the Wolves backcourt. Right now I'd say that counts as great news.
