City Pages wins national award for Innovation

Last week, the 2012 Association of Alternative Newsmedia held its 2012 awards ceremony in Detroit, and City Pages won first-place recognition in the Innovation/Format Buster category.

The award-winning nod was for the "Michele Bachmann Quote Generator," which was put together by news blogger Hart van Denburg and staff writer Nick Pinto.

Gimme Noise won second-place Music Blog honors for "Why We Didn't Sign Foo Fighters Photo Waiver"; "fDeluxe's St. Paul Peterson Talks About the Minneapolis Sound;" 10 Superfan Factoids About Dave Grohl;" 'Rock for the Rules' Compilation;" and "Minnesota Twins Phase Out Local Music Programming;" all of which were written by Andrea Swensson. 

Third-place recognition in the Public Service category was given to Andy Mannix and Mike Mullen for "Jeff Larson used RNC piggy bank to pay friends," and City Pages was nominated for best Media Reporting/Criticism for Kevin Hoffman's "WCCO Duck Dog Story;" "WCCO Airs Video of Woman's Suicide;" and "New York Times Quotes Anonymous City Pages Blog Commenter."
