Christopher James Hayes, who unwittingly drove his alleged getaway vehicle directly towards a security camera, has been indicted in the Sept. 17 shooting death of Christopher Roy de Ronde at 30th and Colfax Avenues N.

The 23-year-old Brooklyn Park man faces two counts of first-degree murder.

DeRonde, 28, was dead on the sidewalk when the cops got there that morning, barefoot and laying on his back with a gunshot wound to the torso. Nearby, they found his shoes, a cell phone, a baseball cap, package of Cigarillos, some baggies of pot and a child's car booster seat. Those clues, a witness, and video from a camera triggered by the sound of the shot being fired, led police to Hayes.

The car Hayes was driving wasn't his. It was traced to the girlfriend of 22-year-old Michael James Funches, who was with Hayes that day. Funches told police he'd driven his girlfriend to work that day, and then spent the morning cruising around town with friends and relatives, including Hayes. Funches has been charged with accessory after the fact.
