Chris Kluwe to closeted NFL player: You have allies within the league
Kluwe says an active gay player would have plenty of support.
Vikings punter Chris Kluwe appeared on CNN this week to talk with Anderson Cooper about the same-sex marriage cases currently before the Supreme Court. A strong advocate for gay marriage rights, Kluwe said he was disappointed that court justices seemed to be leaning toward a narrow ruling in the Prop 8 case.
"They have a perfect chance to show that American citizens who pay their taxes, who serve in our military, and who are being discriminated against should no longer be discriminated against," he said.
Cooper also asked Kluwe about homosexuality in major league sports, and a recent CBS Sports report that an active NFL player is strongly considering coming out.
"What would be your advice to that person?" asked Cooper.
"Just stay true to yourself, and realize you that you have allies within the league and outside of the league," said Kluwe. "Like I said earlier, there are always going to be people who don't get it, but more and more people are getting it."
