Chris Kluwe calls Mankato the STD capital of Minnesota [UPDATE]
-- Update at bottom --
Chris Kluwe wanted to be in Mankato for Vikings training camp this summer, but that was no longer in the cards after the Vikes decided to go with a younger, cheaper punter.

But getting released hasn't stopped the outspoken Kluwe, now with the Oakland Raiders, from using Twitter to voice his opinions. And yesterday, he sounded off on Mankato.
Here's what Kluwe, married with two kids, had to say:
Heading to Napa. Gotta be honest, it feels a lot nicer to be going there rather than the STD capitol of MN. No offense, Mankato. #adiosGage-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 24, 2013
He then added this about the now-demolished Gage Hall , the dorm where Vikings players used to stay during training camp:
My favorite memory of Gage Hall. Rookie walks in, looks at his room. "Man, I've stayed in prisons nicer than this!" #completelybelievable-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 24, 2013
Some Mankato residents and/or sympathizers weren't about to take Kluwe's diss lying down, however:
But Kluwe didn't apologize:
Lol, I love how many people think I did some sort of epic burn on Mankato and are all upset about it. I have nothing against Mankato.-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 24, 2013
I was pointing out some humorous facts and recollections. Take your false outrage elsewhere. #aintnobodygottimeforthat-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 24, 2013
"Facts"? Not quite, Chris. As you'd expect, according to the latest numbers, STD cases in Minnesota tend to be concentrated in the Twin Cities metro area .
So we're not quite sure where Kluwe came up with his "STD capitol of MN" quip. Perhaps it's something to ask him about during his next Reddit Ask Me Anything session.
:::: UPDATE ::::
This morning, Kluwe responded to my skepticism about Mankato being the STD capitol of Minnesota with the following tweets:
@atrupar The "facts" were from was a team presentation at the start of training camp several years ago. That tends to stick with you.-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 25, 2013
@atrupar I didn't just make something up for the sake of starting shit. We were legitimately told that as a warning.-- Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) July 25, 2013
Vikings training camp: when the players aren't focused on football, they're learning about when and where to be extra sure to carry condoms, apparently.
