A Red & White cab driver got more than the usual traffic headaches when he entered the Lowry Hill Tunnel in Minneapolis this morning: His fare pulled out a gun, threw him out of the cab, and took off.

The cabbie was OK, but police shot the suspected carjacker after they caught up with him on northbound I-35E, not far from the I-35 split in Forest Lake. We don't know his condition right now, but we'll watch for updates.

We're also not sure yet what route the high-speed chase followed, but it started not long after 5 a.m. and lasted about 40 minutes, at times hitting 100 mph, authorities told Fox 9. The carjacker was slowed down by state troopers using stop sticks. The cab ended up in the ditch.

Police closed I-35E for the sake of the investigation--adding yet another headache to some folks' morning commutes.
