Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem: It doesn't get any bigger than this
Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem is one big fight
Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champion and U of M wrestling stand-out, is about to face his biggest challenge yet: Alistair Overeem, the K-1 Dutch kick-boxing champion.
The poster released today to promote the December 30 fight provides a physical representation of what it will look like when these two goliaths square off in the Octagon.
But though they may resemble each other in physique, their mixed martial arts styles could not be more different.
Lesnar is a wrestler who is uncomfortable on his feet and doesn't respond well to being punched in the face. Overeem is a pure striker with brutal hands, elbows, knees, and shins -- but get him on the ground and he's as helpless as a turtle on his back.
It's a styles clash similar to the original days of the UFC, before cross-discipline training, when pure ground-fighters fought boxers and karate strikers.
It will also do well over a million pay-per-view buys and will be the biggest UFC event of the year.
