Labor Day weekend festivities went rapidly south when some thugs crashed a couple of parties, robbed the revelers, and shot one man in the abdomen over the weekend. Police are still looking for information about the incidents.
Two young men wearing hooded sweatshirts and bandanas over their faces burst into the backyard of a home on the 5200 block of Chicago Avenue South at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, and demanded that everyone give them their valuables. The party-goers gave up their wallets and cash, and the suspects left.
On Sunday, a very similar stunt took place at about 2:45 a.m. Two young men--one of them carrying a handgun -- crashed a party going on in a backyard in the 5200 block of 10th Avenue South. They demanded valuables. There was some sort of confrontation. One of the suspects shot a man in the abdomen, and then the suspects fled.
The man who had been shot was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, and was listed in stable condition.
Witnesses in both robberies described the suspects as 14- to 20-year-old males. Police say a cell phone of one of the suspects was found, and are asking the person who found it to contact police. Anyone else with information about these cases is asked to call the MPD Juvenile Division during business hours at 612-673-2921, or Sgt. William Palmer at 612-919-9362 after-hours.
