Bachmann and Kline: Keep GITMO detainees away from Minn.
Reps. John Kline and Michele Bachmann introduced legislation Monday that would ban the feds from sending Guantanamo Bay detainees to Minnesota.
Bachmann makes sure to strike fear into the hearts of Minnesotans by imagining these world terrorists in our own backyards! Can you imagine?
President Obama said in January that he plans to close Guantanamo Bay, located in Cuba, but plans of housing or releasing them elsewhere are unknown.
The bill is specific to Minnesota. Read the legislation here.
From Bachmann's release:
"It is simply irresponsible to shut down a facility that houses known terrorists and transfer them to our neighborhoods," said Congresswoman Bachmann. "While I understand the interest of the White House in making this well-orchestrated PR move, these are very dangerous terrorists and they must be treated as such. To transfer them anywhere near Minnesota residents - or any American citizen for that matter, is a risk we cannot afford to take."
Bachmann isn't just partial to keeping Minnesota safe. She also cosponsored legislation that would ban detainees from being housed anywhere in the United States.
