Are Minneapolis flights getting extra security because of Somali population?
A British paper this morning is claiming that the holiday underwear bomber was the first of 25 men trained to attack the United States.
According to the British Sun, there are five groups of five men who have been trained for coordinated attacks.
The 25 suspects, of Pakistani and Somali descent, were radicalised in UK mosques.
Perhaps it was mere coincidence, but my flight back to Minneapolis from the east coast was singled out for extra security--an additional gate check of our I.D.'s and boarding documents. The guards at the gate, however, pretty much ignored us and the rest of the passengers, all of whom happened to be white (the guards were African American).
Considering there have been terrorism charges filed against Minnesota Somalis already, and that local Somalis have gone overseas as suicide bombers, it certainly wouldn't be out of the question (and there are reports this morning that the underwear bomber may have had help getting on the plane without a passport in his effort to bomb Detroit, another Midwestern city with an Islamic immigrant population.)
