Andy Mannix's Chris Kluwe profile is a GLAAD Media Awards finalist
Mannix's Kluwe profile helped "bring us closer to equality," writes GLAAD.
Andy Mannix's "Game Changer" is one of five nominees for GLAAD's "Outstanding Newspaper Article" of the year.
The October cover feature profiled Chris Kluwe, the Vikings punter who helped defeat Minnesota's proposed ban of same sex-marriage with his outspoken advocacy of gay rights.
The GLAAD Media Awards "celebrate outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies on TV, in film, and in the news," says GLAAD's website. "These are the images and stories that bring us closer to equality."
Here are the the four other nominees in the newspaper category, with links to each story:
-- The Boston Globe, "Black Church Reaches out to Gay, Transgender Teens" (paywall)
-- Windy City Times, "Generation Halsted"
-- Press-Telegram, "Most Local School Districts Ignore State's Anti-Gay Bullying Law"
-- The New York Times, "Turned Away, He Turned to the Bible"
The GLAAD Media Award winners will be announced during three separate awards ceremonies this spring.
