Andrew Dikken still on loose after allegedly murdering ex, shooting her current boyfriend
Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, someone broke into Kara Monson's Granite Falls home and shot her and her boyfriend.
Monson, 26, was killed. Her 28-year-old boyfriend survived and was transported to HCMC, where his condition remains unknown.
"This is an incredibly violent and unfortunate thing," Granite Falls Mayor Dave Smiglewski told the Star Tribune, adding that Monson has a young daughter (she reportedly wasn't home at the time of the shootings). "To break into somebody's house in the middle of the night... People are upset around town."
Authorities named Monson's ex-boyfriend, Andrew Dikken, as a "person of interest" in the case. Monson's family told Fox 9 that Dikken and Monson were onetime lovers who had recently split, and Dikken had been struggling with the breakup.
Dikken remains on the loose, though his pickup truck was found earlier today about a half-hour away from the murder scene.
"Mr. Dikken should not be approached as he may be armed and dangerous," the BCA said in a statement released today. They ask anyone with information to call 911 or the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office at 320-564-2130.
