Amy Romero abandoned a newborn in the woods, where the baby died, says complaint
Amy Ann Romero is not a good mother
Amy Ann Romero abandoned her newborn baby in the woods, where the baby died, according to a criminal indictment just unsealed in Sibley County.
Romero allegedly gave birth to Ava Juanita Aune on the morning of April 28, 2001, then abandoned Ava in the woods later that afternoon. The baby died.
Romero, 29, had been living in Milan, Missouri, when she was arrested by police last Friday. She was extradited to Minnesota earlier this week
According to the Mankato Free Press, a grand jury was convened earlier this month, which led to the indictment of Romero on January 19. That led to a warrant for Romero's arrest.
Romero is being charged first-degree murder, second-degree murder, third-degree murder, two counts of second-degree manslaughter, child neglect and child endangerment.
Sibley County Attorney David Schauer declined to comment to the Free Press about how authorities became aware of the child's death or whether a body was found.
Romero will be in court again March 15. Her bail has been set at $25,000 cash, or $250,000 bond with conditions.
