11/20 Morning Must Reads
Thursday's five most fascinating stories printed on wood pulp:
Franken tiptoes through Capitol, watches cameraman walk into a wall The Star Tribune's Kevin Diaz stalked Franken during his Capitol visit yesterday, writing a nice scene of his trip to meet with Democratic leaders. The swarm of reporters was so focused on Franken, one of the cameramen backed into a wall.
"Cautiously optimistic," the comedian-turned-candidate told Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who stopped to inquire about his chances in the Minnesota recount battle with Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.
Then, with a guffaw, he echoed a reporter's wiseacre remark. "Yes, and cautiously on message."
Crime of the day: dousing people in gasoline This sounds like a ridiculous scene from a movie: Two masked men with guns, dressed completely in black, broke into a Lake Elmo duplex yesterday and "doused a woman and two teenagers with gasoline, attacked a man and fired a shot before fleeing".
Famous Winona pig dies A famous 6-year-old Winona potbellied pig died Tuesday. Why was the pig famous? The pig's sitter still has animal cruelty cases pending after letting the pig get too fat.
COOKIES! All of this recount and political nonsense makes us beg for something to help us lighten up. The Pioneer Press full page of cookies definitely hit the spot. Now we just need to find time to actually make all of these recipes.
Savage craiglist ad that led to murder had a lot of response Women who emailed the Savage craigslist ad for "Sitter needed ASAP" should be counting their lucky stars. Katherine Ann Olson went to the home and was found dead a day later. Twenty-one people had responded to the ad when it was posted.
