10 people die in 10 days on Minnesota roads in March
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety reports that at least 10 people have died on Minnesota roads between March 14-24, a spate of fatalities not seen since eight people were killed between Jan. 12-22.
"These tragedies serve as a reminder to motorists that despite progress to limit road deaths, traffic fatalities remain far too common," DPS traffic safety director Cheri Marti said in a ststement. "Motorists need to use this news to re-engage behind the wheel, stay focused and practice safe driving behavior."
The deaths include:
Jacob Hancock, 25, and Carey Bissett, 26, both of Madison: Hancock drove straight through a curve on Hwy 75 on March 14 in Lac qui Parle County and lost control of the vehicle before it landed on its roof.
Edward Swope, 68, of Boone, Iowa: The vehicle in which he was a passenger attempted a U-turn at a crossover on I-35 in Freeborn County on March 15 and collided with another vehicle.
Grayson Paul Earl Jett, 14 months old, of Golden Valley: On March 18 in Columbia Heights a distracted driver reaching for her cell phone rear-ended the vehicle the boy was in.
Danielle Solberg, 26, of Hastings: She was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Hwy. 52 in Goodhue County on March 18 when it ran off the left side of the road, vaulted through the median and rolled.
Michael John Rymer, 39, of Crystal: Rymer was struck on March 20 by an SUV in a hit-and-run incident in Crystal.
Thomas Blum, 61, of West St. Paul: Blum was driving on I-90 in Faribault County on March 21 when he lost control of his vehicle, entered median and rolled several times.
