With the release of the hand-animated (vintage!) Winnie the Pooh set for this Friday, July 15, Gimme Noise received the soundtrack in the mail from Disney Records, and it features none other than Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. To top that off, Pitchfork Media reported that a record dubbed The Green Album (Weezer must be pissed) will be released by Disney on August 23 to support The Muppets, which comes out November 23.
But oh, just wait for the video preview!
Not that there's anything wrong musicians recording some goofy songs for covers compilations or soundtracks, but these two are just plain funny. Everyone already knows that Zooey Deschanel/She & Him make cute pop music, but the Winnie the Pooh soundtrack takes things to stratospheric levels of fluff. Sample lyric:
Winnie the Pooh/ Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff/ He's Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh/ Willy nilly silly ole bear
It gets better: The YouTube video from Disney below offers a preview of sorts for Deschanel's contribution to the soundtrack. But how did Tigger and Pooh get in there?
The soundtrack for The Muppets actually sounds pretty funny, and right now, Spin is streaming My Morning Jacket's contribution. The band chose "Our World," from the 1977 Muppets Christmas special, "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas."
Still, there's no denying that the line-up for The Green Album is kind of bizarre. You've got MMJ, OK Go, Sondre Lerche, and Andrew Bird, but also the dark punkers from Alkaline Trio and Brandon Saller of the Hot Topic screamers Atreyu. And, the Fray...?
Only time will tell whether Disney's The Green Album trumps Weezer's 2001 return to form, also known as The Green Album.
