Last month, we saw what a half-baked Prince tribute looks like. At Sunday's BET Awards, we saw a cavalcade of megastars and collaborators pouring out their purple hearts.
The award show at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater was largely dominated by passionate remembrances of Prince, the singular, Minnesota-born music genius who died in April.
Among the performers and performances: former Prince bandmate, protégé, and girlfriend Sheila E. (“Housequake,” “Erotic City,” “Let’s Work," more), the Roots, Erykah Badu, and Bilal (“The Ballad of Dorothy Parker," “The Beautiful Ones"), Jennifer Hudson (“Purple Rain"), Stevie Wonder and Tori Kelly (“Take Me With U"), Janelle Monáe (“Delirious,” “Kiss,” “Pop Life,” “I Would Die 4 U"), and Maxwell (“Lake by the Ocean,” and “Nothing Compares 2 U").
Watch them all below.
