Watch Polica perform at Coachella 2013, hear their new single with Justin Vernon
Coachella 2013 is in full swing, and since it's in California, there is sunshine and an abundance of live outdoor music. Twin Cities indie heroes Polica made the trip, and performed to an enormous, packed tent of people on Friday. In a few clips posted by the music festival on YouTube, Channy Leaneagh not only lets her vocals be altered by the devices at the other end of her microphone cord, but also by her improvisational approach to the now-familiar melodies from Give You the Ghost.
The set included "Wandering Star," "Amongster," and a Update: new single called "Tiff" featuring a "surprise" guest in Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, who was at the festival to perform with Shouting Matches -- his rootsy project that is looking less like a side one and more like a primary one these days.
Though the new Vernon-assisted Polica song, titled "Tiff," streamed live online, it is being stowed for an official debut on Monday, according to the band's official site.
For now, we'll settle for this passionate Instagram shot. As soon as it is available for public consumption we'll update.
Update: And here it is! Ponder the line "I'm a pawn in the hype machine" carefully.
The two tracks filmed from multiple angles by the Coachella video crew show the band on an enormous stage commanding a rapt audience even larger than the one they saw at last year's Lollapalooza. It was not raining or even remotely chilly.
Update: Here's the live version of "Tiff" from Coachella featuring Vernon.
Polica. With Night Moves and Ronia. 18+, Sold Out, Wednesday, April 24 at First Avenue. Info here.
